Which Genesis chapter describes the covenant and rainbow after Noah’s Ark flood?

The story behind the answer

Genesis 9 describes the covenant and rainbow after Noah’s Ark flood.

The Flood narrative extends across Genesis chapters 6–9. Chapter 6 introduces Noah, the corruption of the world, and the Ark’s construction. Chapter 7 describes the entry into the Ark and the rising waters. Chapter 8 follows the recession of the waters, the birds, and Noah’s departure. Chapter 9 then presents the covenant, its rainbow sign, and events in Noah’s family after the Flood.

Genesis 9:8–17 is the main covenant passage. It includes Noah, his descendants, and every living creature that came out of the Ark. The promise concerns the future: no flood will again destroy all flesh. The rainbow is described as the visible reminder of that promise.

This chapter reference is more precise than simply answering “the Flood story,” because Genesis distributes the narrative across four chapters. Genesis 12, by contrast, begins the story of Abram and belongs to a later part of the book.
