Which game engine powers Spyro Reignited Trilogy?

The story behind the answer

Which game engine powers Spyro Reignited Trilogy? Unreal Engine 4 powers it.

The 2018 compilation was developed by Toys for Bob as a modern remake of Insomniac Games’ original PlayStation trilogy: Spyro the Dragon, Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rage!, and Spyro: Year of the Dragon. Rebuilding those games for contemporary hardware required a modern 3D engine rather than the original PlayStation technology.

Unreal Engine 4 supported the trilogy’s redesigned character models, richer environments, lighting, effects, animation, and modern control options. Toys for Bob still aimed to preserve the original games’ level layouts and gameplay feel, so the remake combines new presentation with deliberately familiar design.

A common mix-up is confusing the developer with the engine. Toys for Bob made Reignited Trilogy, while Insomniac developed the original games. The trilogy launched on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in November 2018, followed by Nintendo Switch and Windows versions in 2019.
