The first installment in The Legend of Spyro trilogy is A New Beginning.

Released in 2006, the action-adventure game rebooted Spyro’s story with a stronger focus on combat than the earlier platforming-centered games. Spyro is raised by dragonflies, discovers his origins as a purple dragon, and sets out with Sparx to learn about the war against the Dark Master.

The game introduced important characters and lore, including Ignitus, Cynder, and the other elemental Guardians. Spyro gains fire, electricity, ice, and earth abilities during his quest. It was followed by The Eternal Night in 2007 and Dawn of the Dragon in 2008.

A common mix-up is treating Dawn of the Dragon as the beginning because its title sounds like a major opening chapter. It is actually the trilogy’s concluding game; A New Beginning is the canonical first entry.
