The fool associated with Shireen Baratheon in the novels is Patchface. He serves as a strange court fool in Stannis Baratheon’s household and is one of Princess Shireen’s closest companions in A Song of Ice and Fire.
Patchface was once a boy from the Free Cities who survived a shipwreck after spending days lost at sea. He was found alive but mentally changed, with a tattooed, motley appearance and cryptic songs and sayings. His repeated references to drowning and the sea give him an unsettling, possibly supernatural quality.
In the novels, Shireen enjoys Patchface’s company, while adults around Stannis often regard him with suspicion or discomfort. Game of Thrones omitted the character, although the television series retained elements of his songs through Shireen. Patchface is therefore easy to confuse with other book fools, such as Ser Dontos, but those characters belong to different courts and storylines.
