Which Fleetwood Mac member was fired in 2018?

The story behind the answer

Lindsey Buckingham was fired, or formally dismissed, from Fleetwood Mac in 2018. His departure ended the classic Buckingham–Nicks lineup’s latest period together and preceded a major touring change for the band.

The split followed disagreements about Fleetwood Mac’s planned tour, including its timing and the balance between familiar hits and less frequently performed material. Mick Fleetwood later described the situation as a major impasse. Buckingham’s departure was publicly reported in April 2018, after the band’s appearance at the MusiCares Person of the Year event.

Fleetwood Mac replaced him with two musicians: Mike Campbell, formerly of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, and Neil Finn of Split Enz and Crowded House. The expanded lineup toured in 2018 and 2019. Buckingham later sued the band over his dismissal; the case was settled in December 2018.

Neil Finn was a replacement, not the dismissed member. Mick Fleetwood and John McVie remained central members, while Buckingham’s firing is distinct from his earlier voluntary departure in 1987.
