Train Dreams won the 2026 Critics Choice Award for Best Cinematography through Adolpho Veloso.
Veloso was recognized for the cinematography of Train Dreams, a period drama adapted from Denis Johnson’s novella. The cinematography category honors the visual design and camera work that shape a film’s images, rather than its editing, production design, or visual effects.
The award was one of the film craft prizes presented at the 31st Critics Choice Awards. Stephen Mirrione won Best Editing for F1, Tamara Deverell and Shane Vieau won Best Production Design for Frankenstein, and Joe Letteri, Richard Baneham, Eric Saindon, and Daniel Barrett won Best Visual Effects for Avatar: Fire and Ash.
The ceremony took place on January 4, 2026, at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica. Train Dreams also appeared among the Best Picture nominees. Its cinematography victory is distinct from the film’s nomination in the top-picture category.
