Sinners received the 2026 Critics Choice Award for Best Original Screenplay.
Ryan Coogler won the screenplay award for Sinners, his period supernatural horror film about twin brothers returning to their Mississippi hometown. The story blends horror with music, family history and the racial realities of the American South.
The category is called Best Original Screenplay because the script was treated as an original work rather than an adaptation of a previously published story. This differs from Best Adapted Screenplay, which Paul Thomas Anderson won for One Battle After Another.
Sinners led the film nominations with 17 and finished the ceremony with four wins. Its other recognized achievements included Best Score, Best Young Actor/Actress and Best Casting/Ensemble.
