Which film did Practical Magic 2 first dethrone at the domestic box office?

Practical Magic 2 first dethroned Spider-Man: Brand New Day at the domestic box office.

The sequel debuted to $30 million in the United States and Canada and reached the top position during its opening weekend. Spider-Man: Brand New Day had occupied the number-one spot for six consecutive weeks before Practical Magic 2 replaced it.

The two films represent very different genres and audience expectations: Practical Magic 2 is a romantic fantasy centered on the Owens family, while Spider-Man: Brand New Day is a superhero film. Their competition is nevertheless part of the same weekly domestic box-office chart.

The film’s opening weekend also included competition from The Uprising, Hope, Runner, and Oasis: Don’t Look Back in Anger. Those titles were released in the same general frame, but Spider-Man: Brand New Day was the specific previous leader displaced by the sequel.
