Which film did Beyoncé voice Nala in during 2019?

The story behind the answer

Beyoncé voiced Nala in Disney’s 2019 film The Lion King.

Directed by Jon Favreau, The Lion King is a photorealistic computer-animated remake of Disney’s 1994 traditionally animated film. Beyoncé joined a cast that included Donald Glover as Simba, James Earl Jones as Mufasa, and Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar.

Nala is Simba’s childhood friend and later becomes his partner and queen. Beyoncé also contributed original music to the film, including “Spirit,” which was released as a single and featured in the related album The Lion King: The Gift.

The 2019 movie is distinct from Beyoncé’s earlier acting role in Dreamgirls, where she played Deena Jones. It is also different from the 2024 prequel Mufasa: The Lion King, which focuses on Mufasa and Taka before the original story.
