Which fictional textbook is attributed to Newt Scamander in J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World?

The story behind the answer

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is the fictional textbook attributed to Newt Scamander in J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World.

In the Harry Potter books, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is a Hogwarts schoolbook used by students studying Care of Magical Creatures. The title page identifies the author as Newt Scamander, a celebrated magizoologist. Harry, Ron, and Hermione own a copy, and the book is mentioned as part of their school life.

Rowling later published a real charity edition of the book in 2001. It was presented as Harry’s school copy, complete with humorous notes attributed to Harry and Ron. Proceeds supported Comic Relief, a British charity that funds projects addressing poverty and social injustice.

The title then became the basis for a film series beginning in 2016. The films expand Newt into a central character, but the fictional textbook remains a separate object within the story. The real book’s author credit is Rowling, using the in-world name Newt Scamander.
