Quidditch is the broomstick sport played with a Quaffle in J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series.
A Quidditch match is played between two teams of seven players. Each side has three Chasers, two Beaters, one Keeper, and one Seeker. Chasers try to score with the red Quaffle, while Beaters use bats to redirect Bludgers.
The Seeker’s objective is to catch the golden Snitch. Catching it usually ends the match and awards 150 points, although the team with the most points wins. This scoring rule means a team can catch the Snitch and still lose.
Quidditch is fictional, but the sport inspired real-world games played by people on foot. Those organizations later adopted names such as quadball to distinguish the modern sport from Rowling’s fictional version.
