Cormoran Strike is the fictional detective who stars in J.K. Rowling’s Robert Galbraith novels.
Strike first appeared in The Cuckoo’s Calling, published in 2013. He is a private investigator based in London and a former Special Investigation Branch investigator in the Royal Military Police. His military background contributes to his investigative skills and to the physical injuries he carries after service.
The series also gives major importance to Robin Ellacott, who begins as Strike’s temporary secretary and becomes his investigative partner. The novels are crime stories rather than fantasy, so Strike is separate from Rowling’s wizarding characters. The books were initially marketed as the work of Robert Galbraith, Rowling’s chosen pseudonym.
