Which female solo artist headlined Glastonbury in 2011?

The story behind the answer

Beyoncé headlined Glastonbury Festival in 2011.

She performed on the Pyramid Stage on Sunday 26 June, closing the festival after U2 and Coldplay headlined the Friday and Saturday nights. Her appearance was announced in February 2011 and made her the first woman to headline Glastonbury since Sinéad O'Connor in 1990. She was also the first solo Black woman to headline the Pyramid Stage.

Beyoncé's set combined songs from her solo career with material associated with Destiny's Child, including “Crazy in Love,” “Single Ladies,” “Independent Women Part I” and “Survivor.” She also performed songs from her 2011 album 4, such as “Run the World (Girls)” and “Best Thing I Never Had.”

The performance attracted a huge television audience and was widely praised, despite early doubts from some rock-focused fans about a pop and R&B artist closing the festival. Adele, Lady Gaga and Rihanna are major festival performers, but none was the 2011 Pyramid Stage headliner.
