Peter Pilotto designed Princess Eugenie’s main wedding dress for her 2018 marriage to Jack Brooksbank.
The gown was created by Peter Pilotto and Christopher De Vos, the designers behind the Peter Pilotto label. Its low back was a deliberate feature: Eugenie wanted the design to reveal the scar from surgery she had undergone as a child to treat scoliosis. The open back therefore carried personal meaning as well as visual impact.
The dress used a neckline that folded around the shoulders and a full skirt with a long train. Embroidered motifs included symbols associated with the couple and the United Kingdom. The design balanced a traditional formal gown with a contemporary statement.
Eugenie later changed into a second reception dress by Zac Posen. That change is a frequent source of confusion, because both dresses appeared in coverage of the same wedding day.
