Rachel Elnaugh became the first woman to appear as a Dragon on the British programme Dragon's Den.
Elnaugh was one of the five investors in the original British panel when the programme launched in 2005. She was known as an entrepreneur and founder of Red Letter Days, a company selling experience gifts such as driving and leisure activities.
Her presence established that the original panel was not exclusively male. The other launch dragons were Peter Jones, Duncan Bannatyne, Theo Paphitis and Simon Woodroffe. Elnaugh later left the programme, while other female investors became more strongly associated with later series.
A common mix-up is Deborah Meaden, who became one of the show's best-known dragons but was not the first woman on the panel. Meaden joined in the third series. Elnaugh's distinction concerns the programme's first female dragon, not the longest-serving female investor.
