Which doom metal band released "Epicus Doomicus Metallicus" in 1986?
Answer
Candlemass
Answer
Candlemass
The doom metal band that released “Epicus Doomicus Metallicus” in 1986 was Candlemass.
The album was Candlemass’s debut studio release, issued by France’s Black Dragon Records on 10 June 1986. It was recorded in February at Thunderload Studios in Stockholm, while the band was still searching for a permanent vocalist. Johan Längqvist supplied the vocals as a guest musician.
Its slow, massive guitar riffs and operatic singing helped define the epic-doom style. The title is humorous pseudo-Latin for “Epic Doom Metal,” directly signaling the sound Candlemass helped pioneer. “Solitude” became one of the band’s signature songs.
A common mix-up is confusing the album with Nightfall, the 1987 follow-up that introduced vocalist Messiah Marcolin. Epicus Doomicus Metallicus initially sold poorly, but later reissues and its influence made it a landmark of doom metal.
