Which distillery makes Jack Daniel’s Tennessee whiskey?

The story behind the answer

Jack Daniel’s Tennessee whiskey is made at Jack Daniel’s Distillery.

The distillery is in Lynchburg, Tennessee, and was founded by Jasper Newton “Jack” Daniel. The brand is owned by Brown–Forman, while the distillery remains one of the best-known whiskey sites in the United States. Jack Daniel’s is commonly classified as Tennessee whiskey rather than simply bourbon because its production emphasizes the Lincoln County Process.

In that process, newly made whiskey is filtered through or mellowed with sugar maple charcoal before barrel aging. This step is associated with a smoother character and is a defining feature of the brand’s traditional identity. The whiskey is then matured in new, charred oak barrels, as required for bourbon-style American whiskey.

Lynchburg is in a dry county, so visitors should not assume that ordinary retail alcohol sales operate there in the same way as in many other whiskey-producing regions.
