Which Disney theme park is home to the ride 'Expedition Everest'?
Answer
Disney's Animal Kingdom
Answer
Disney's Animal Kingdom
Disney's Animal Kingdom is home to the ride “Expedition Everest.” The attraction, officially titled Expedition Everest – Legend of the Forbidden Mountain, is in the park's Asia section at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida.
The steel roller coaster follows a fictional Himalayan expedition interrupted by the Yeti, a legendary creature said to guard the Forbidden Mountain. Although the ride is themed around Mount Everest and Himalayan culture, its artificial mountain is not a literal model of Mount Everest. The coaster opened in 2006 after roughly three years of construction and planning.
Expedition Everest is especially notable for its backward section, when the train encounters damaged track and reverses into the mountain. It was built by Vekoma and designed by Walt Disney Imagineering. The mountain rises 199.5 feet—just below Florida's 200-foot aviation-warning threshold—and the attraction cost about $100 million.
A common mix-up is Disneyland's Matterhorn Bobsleds, another Disney mountain coaster featuring a snowman-like creature. Matterhorn is at Disneyland in California; Expedition Everest is at Animal Kingdom in Florida.
