In which year did the Disney theme park Tokyo Disneyland open?

The story behind the answer

Tokyo Disneyland opened in 1983.

The park officially opened on April 15, 1983, in Urayasu, Chiba Prefecture, near Tokyo. It was the first Disney theme park built outside the United States and was developed by the Oriental Land Company under a licensing agreement with The Walt Disney Company.

Tokyo Disneyland was modeled largely on Disneyland in California and the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World, with themed lands including Adventureland, Fantasyland, Tomorrowland, and Westernland. Its opening marked an important step in Disney’s international expansion and helped establish the Tokyo Disney Resort as a major destination in Japan.

A frequent mistake is choosing 1982 because construction and preparation took place before the park opened. The relevant date for this question is the public opening, not the start of construction. Tokyo DisneySea later joined the resort in 2001, making Tokyo Disney Resort a two-park destination.
