Which Disney princess is voiced by Jodi Benson?
Answer
Ariel
Answer
Ariel
The Disney princess voiced by Jodi Benson is Ariel.
Benson provided Ariel’s speaking and singing voice in Disney’s 1989 animated film The Little Mermaid. Ariel is the youngest daughter of King Triton, a mermaid princess fascinated by the human world. Her desire to explore that world drives the story, eventually leading her to make a dangerous bargain with Ursula in exchange for becoming human.
Ariel’s songs, especially “Part of Your World,” became central to the film’s identity. Benson’s expressive performance helped define the character’s adventurous, curious personality and made Ariel one of Disney’s most influential modern princesses. The film’s success also helped launch the period commonly called the Disney Renaissance.
The character originates from Hans Christian Andersen’s 1837 fairy tale “The Little Mermaid,” but Disney substantially changed the ending and characterization. In Andersen’s story, the mermaid’s fate is tragic and bittersweet; Disney’s Ariel receives a romantic, happily-ever-after conclusion with Prince Eric.
The question concerns the original animated continuity. Ariel has also been voiced by other performers in spin-offs and adaptations, while Halle Bailey portrayed her in the 2023 live-action film. Jodi Benson remains most strongly associated with the original animated Ariel.
