The Disney princess known for her long hair and imprisonment in a tower is Rapunzel.
Rapunzel is the central character of Disney’s 2010 animated film Tangled, which adapts the traditional European fairy tale popularized by the Brothers Grimm. In the film, the magical golden hair she was born with has powerful healing properties. The selfish Mother Gothel kidnaps Rapunzel as a baby and raises her in an isolated tower, pretending that the outside world is dangerous so she can keep Rapunzel’s magic for herself.
Rapunzel eventually leaves the tower with the thief Flynn Rider, later known as Eugene Fitzherbert. Their journey allows her to discover the kingdom, uncover her royal identity, and challenge Gothel’s control. Her hair is unusually long because Gothel repeatedly uses it to preserve her youth.
The story is often confused with generic images of fairy-tale princesses in towers. Ariel is associated with the sea, Snow White with the poisoned apple and seven dwarfs, and Cinderella with the glass slipper. Rapunzel’s defining combination is the tower, the exceptionally long hair, and Tangled.
