Which Disney film is about a wooden puppet who becomes a real boy?

The story behind the answer

The Disney film about a wooden puppet who becomes a real boy is Pinocchio.

Disney’s Pinocchio is a 1940 animated fantasy film based loosely on Carlo Collodi’s Italian children’s novel The Adventures of Pinocchio, first published in book form in 1883. In the film, the woodcarver Geppetto creates Pinocchio and wishes that he could become a real boy.

The Blue Fairy brings Pinocchio to life as a puppet but tells him that he must prove himself brave, truthful, and unselfish to become human. Jiminy Cricket is appointed as his conscience and tries to guide him through temptations, including the schemes of Honest John and Gideon.

The film’s best-known warning is Pinocchio’s growing nose when he lies, although that is only one part of his larger journey toward responsibility. After demonstrating courage and selflessness while rescuing Geppetto, Pinocchio is transformed into a real human boy. The film premiered in New York on February 7, 1940.
