Which Disney CEO served from 2005 to 2020?

The story behind the answer

Bob Iger served as Disney’s chief executive officer from 2005 to 2020.

Iger succeeded Michael Eisner as CEO on October 1, 2005, after previously serving as Disney’s president and chief operating officer. During his first tenure, Disney expanded its entertainment portfolio through major acquisitions, including Pixar in 2006, Marvel Entertainment in 2009, and Lucasfilm in 2012. The company also acquired most of 21st Century Fox’s entertainment assets in 2019.

Iger’s original CEO contract ended in 2020, when Bob Chapek became chief executive. Iger remained executive chairman during the transition and stepped away from that role at the end of 2021. Disney’s board then brought him back as CEO in November 2022 after Chapek’s dismissal, making Iger’s leadership unusually nonconsecutive.

The wording refers specifically to Iger’s first CEO period, not to his entire career at Disney. Michael Eisner preceded him, Bob Chapek followed him in 2020, and Iger later returned before eventually being succeeded by Josh D’Amaro in 2026.
