Destiny’s Child won the 2001 Grammy for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with “Say My Name.”
The song was released as a single from the group’s second major-label album, The Writing’s on the Wall. Its production was created by Rodney Jerkins, Fred Jerkins III, LaShawn Daniels, and Beyoncé, among others. The lyrics describe a suspicious conversation about a partner whose behavior appears evasive.
“Say My Name” became one of Destiny’s Child’s signature recordings and topped the Billboard Hot 100. Its music video used brightly colored rooms and a deliberately stylized visual concept, helping distinguish it from the group’s earlier work.
“Survivor” is another major Destiny’s Child hit, but it belongs to the group’s later album and was not the song that won this specific 2001 performance Grammy.
