Bruce Oldfield created Queen Rania of Jordan’s wedding dress for her 1993 marriage to King Abdullah II.
Rania Al-Yassin married Jordan’s Crown Prince Abdullah in Amman on 10 June 1993. British designer Bruce Oldfield designed her wedding gown, which reflected the grand formal vocabulary of early-1990s royal fashion. The bridal look was associated with rich white fabric, structured tailoring and elaborate embellishment.
Oldfield became particularly known for eveningwear and high-profile clients, making him a natural choice for a ceremonial royal wedding. Rania’s wedding style also connected British couture traditions with Jordanian royal pageantry.
A frequent mix-up is to assign the gown to Middle Eastern designers such as Elie Saab or Zuhair Murad, whose later international bridal and red-carpet work is highly visible. For Rania’s 1993 wedding, however, the credited designer was Bruce Oldfield.
