Valentino created Princess Madeleine of Sweden’s 2013 wedding dress, featuring lace by Cordelia de Castellane.
Princess Madeleine married Christopher O’Neill in Stockholm in June 2013. Her wedding gown was created by the Valentino fashion house and used an ivory pleated silk organza construction with a broad appliquéd lace collar. The lace was made by Cordelia de Castellane, adding a distinct couture detail to the otherwise refined silhouette.
The dress combined a classic royal bridal shape with restrained detailing rather than an extremely large skirt or exceptionally long train. Its lace collar and covered shoulders gave it a formal appearance suited to the ceremony at the Royal Palace chapel.
It is sometimes confused with gowns by Elie Saab or other designers worn by European royals in the same decade. Valentino was responsible for Madeleine’s 2013 wedding dress, while the named lace maker was Cordelia de Castellane. Those are related but different roles.
