Which designer created Princess Diana’s 1981 going-away dress worn after her wedding ceremony?

The story behind the answer

David Sassoon created Princess Diana’s 1981 going-away dress worn after her wedding ceremony.

After her wedding to Charles, Prince of Wales, Diana changed out of the Emanuel wedding gown into a pale pink dress by David Sassoon. She wore the shorter outfit when leaving Clarence House for the honeymoon. Its practical length and simpler construction contrasted with the ceremonial gown and showed how a wedding wardrobe could include more than one bridal look.

Sassoon was a British designer who became associated with Diana’s clothing during the early years of her public life. He created many of her day and evening outfits, while David and Elizabeth Emanuel designed the main wedding dress.

The two Davids are a frequent source of confusion. David Emanuel designed the cathedral gown; David Sassoon designed the going-away outfit. They were different designers and different garments from the same wedding day.
