Which darts player became the youngest BDO world champion in 1983?
Answer
Keith Deller
Answer
Keith Deller
Keith Deller became the youngest BDO world champion when he won the 1983 title.
Deller was 23 years old when he defeated Eric Bristow 6–5 in the final at the Jollees Cabaret Club in Stoke-on-Trent. The match is especially remembered for Deller’s remarkable 138 checkout, completed with treble 20, treble 18 and double 12.
That finish helped him overturn a significant deficit and remains one of the most celebrated moments in darts history. Deller’s victory was an upset because Bristow was already one of the leading players of the era.
The record is usually stated as the youngest BDO world champion. It should not automatically be applied to every world championship organised by another body, since different tournaments and eras have separate records.
