Billund is the Danish town home to the original LEGO factory and the first LEGOLAND park.
LEGO's history is closely tied to Billund because Ole Kirk Christiansen founded the company there in 1932. The town remained the centre of LEGO's manufacturing, administration, product development, and visitor attractions as the company expanded internationally.
The first LEGOLAND park opened in Billund in 1968 beside the LEGO factory. It displayed large-scale models built from LEGO bricks and became a major tourist attraction in Denmark.
Billund is sometimes confused with Copenhagen, Denmark's capital, or with Odense, the birthplace of author Hans Christian Andersen. Both cities are Danish, but Billund is the town most specifically associated with the LEGO Group and its original theme park.
