Which currency is the official money of Saudi Arabia?

The story behind the answer

The official currency of Saudi Arabia is the Saudi riyal.

The Saudi riyal is divided into 100 halalas and has the ISO 4217 code SAR. Coins are issued in denominations including 1, 5, 10, 25, 50, and 100 halalas, while banknotes are issued in riyal denominations.

The currency is issued by the Saudi Central Bank, formerly known as the Saudi Arabian Monetary Authority. The riyal has been pegged to the United States dollar at 3.75 riyals per US dollar since 1986.

Several countries use currencies whose names are spelled riyal, rial, or real, but they are separate national currencies. Saudi Arabia’s riyal is therefore distinct from the Qatari riyal and the Omani rial.
