Which currency is divided into 100 tetri?
Answer
Georgian lari
Answer
Georgian lari
The Georgian lari is divided into 100 tetri.
Georgia introduced the lari on 2 October 1995, replacing the Russian ruble that had circulated after the country became independent from the Soviet Union. The word lari means “property” or “possession” in an old Georgian language, while tetri was the name of a medieval Georgian silver coin.
The National Bank of Georgia issues the country’s banknotes and coins. Lari banknotes carry Georgian historical figures, cultural landmarks, and design elements from Georgia’s distinctive alphabet. The currency code is GEL, and the symbol is ₾.
The lari is sometimes confused with the Romanian leu because both names are associated with the idea of a lion in different linguistic traditions. They are separate currencies used in different countries and have unrelated modern monetary systems.
