Which currency did Georgia introduce in 1995 to replace the kuponi?

The story behind the answer

Georgia introduced the Georgian lari in 1995 to replace the temporary kuponi currency.

The lari was introduced on 2 October 1995, during the presidency of Eduard Shevardnadze. Its name comes from an old Georgian word associated with a hoard or property, while the subdivision is the tetri.

The lari replaced the kuponi, which had suffered severe inflation after Georgia became independent from the Soviet Union. The National Bank of Georgia is responsible for issuing the country’s banknotes and coins.

A common mix-up is confusing the lari with the Armenian dram or Azerbaijani manat, the currencies of neighbouring countries. One lari is divided into 100 tetri, a detail that distinguishes it from many other currencies in the region.
