Which country's flag features a sun with a face and 32 rays?

The story behind the answer

Which country's flag features a sun with a face and 32 rays? Argentina. The Argentine flag features the golden Sun of May, shown with a human face and 32 alternating straight and wavy rays.

Argentina’s sky-blue-and-white flag was designed by Manuel Belgrano and first raised in 1812 during the struggle for independence from Spain. The Sun of May was added later and refers to the May Revolution of 1810, the uprising that began the process leading to independence. Its design is also linked to the sun symbol on Argentina’s early coinage.

The 32 rays are divided evenly between 16 straight rays and 16 wavy or flaming rays. A common mix-up is Uruguay, whose flag also uses the Sun of May and therefore also has a face, but its conventional depiction has 16 rays rather than Argentina’s 32. The sun appears on Argentina’s ceremonial and official national flag, while simpler versions may omit it.
