Which country's flag is the only national flag to include a Bible?
Answer
Dominican Republic
Answer
Dominican Republic
The Dominican Republic has the only national flag commonly recognized as depicting an open Bible.
The Bible appears inside the coat of arms at the center of the flag, which sits where the flag’s broad white cross meets. It is shown open to John 8:31–32, verses associated with truth and freedom, and is positioned beneath a gold cross.
The flag was designed by Juan Pablo Duarte and first appeared during the Dominican struggle for independence from Haiti. Its blue and red quarters are divided by a white cross; the civil version omits the central coat of arms, while the state flag includes it.
The wording can cause confusion because many flags display crosses, religious symbols, or mottos. The distinctive feature here is the depiction of a Bible itself. The surrounding coat of arms also includes the motto “Dios, Patria, Libertad,” meaning “God, Fatherland, Liberty.”
