Which country's flag features a green cedar tree in the center? Lebanon. The Lebanese flag displays a green cedar of Lebanon in a broad white central band between two red horizontal stripes.
The design was formally introduced into Lebanon’s Constitution on 7 December 1943, shortly before independence from the French Mandate. The cedar has been a powerful Lebanese symbol for centuries, associated with endurance, longevity and the country’s historic forests. The white band is twice the height of each red band, and the tree touches both red stripes.
The flag’s design was standardized in 1990 so that the entire cedar, including its trunk, is green. Earlier versions commonly showed a brown trunk, so historical images may look slightly different from the modern flag. Lebanon is sometimes confused with Canada because both flags feature a central tree-like national emblem, but Canada’s flag has a red maple leaf, while Lebanon’s has a cedar and red-white-red bands.
