Which country co-hosted the 2026 World Cup with the United States and Mexico?

The story behind the answer

Canada co-hosted the 2026 World Cup with the United States and Mexico.

The three-country bid was selected by FIFA Congress in Moscow on June 13, 2018, defeating Morocco’s rival bid by 134 votes to 65. It created the first World Cup hosted by three nations and the first jointly hosted men’s tournament since South Korea and Japan in 2002.

Canada’s matches are staged in Toronto and Vancouver, while Mexico hosts games in Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey. The United States provides most of the venues and matches, including the final at MetLife Stadium in the New York/New Jersey region.

The 2026 tournament also marks several milestones. It is the first World Cup with 48 teams instead of 32, and Canada is hosting or co-hosting the men’s tournament for the first time. Mexico becomes the first country to host or co-host the men’s World Cup three times, following tournaments in 1970 and 1986.
