The Scout is the Counter-Strike weapon abbreviated as the SSG 08. It is a lightweight, bolt-action sniper rifle that costs less than the AWP and allows its user to move more quickly while carrying it.
The weapon’s official in-game designation refers to the Steyr SSG 08, a real-world Austrian sniper rifle. In Counter-Strike communities, players commonly call it the Scout, continuing a nickname used in earlier versions of the series. It is valued for mobility, economical purchase cost, and the ability to kill an unarmored opponent with a body shot.
The Scout is not the same as the AWP, which is heavier, more expensive, and generally more powerful. Nor is it an automatic sniper rifle such as the G3SG1 or SCAR-20. Those distinctions make the SSG 08 a separate sniper category in the buy menu.
