JW won the first Counter-Strike Major MVP award at DreamHack Winter 2013.
Jesper “JW” Wecksell was Fnatic’s young Swedish AWPer at the event. His aggressive use of the AWP helped Fnatic defeat Ninjas in Pyjamas in the grand final and earned him the tournament’s MVP recognition.
DreamHack Winter 2013 is important because it was the first Valve-sponsored CS:GO Major. Its MVP award therefore began the formal Major MVP tradition in the modern version of Counter-Strike. The award is distinct from the championship trophy, which was won by JW’s team, Fnatic.
JW’s role was especially notable because he frequently took unconventional angles and sought opening kills with the AWP. His style became one of the recognizable features of early professional CS:GO, although later Majors had different MVP winners and teams.
