Which company published the original Crash Bandicoot for PlayStation?
Answer
Sony Computer Entertainment
Answer
Sony Computer Entertainment
Sony Computer Entertainment published the original Crash Bandicoot for the PlayStation.
Crash Bandicoot was developed by Naughty Dog and released in 1996 as a PlayStation exclusive. Sony wanted a distinctive mascot-style platform game for its new console, and the company agreed to publish the project after seeing a demonstration produced by Naughty Dog.
Universal Interactive had an important role before Sony became the publisher: it had signed Naughty Dog to develop the game and provided funding and production support. That arrangement can cause confusion, because Universal helped initiate and promote the project. However, the finished original game’s publisher credit belongs to Sony Computer Entertainment.
The first game launched in North America on September 9, 1996, followed by Europe on November 8 and Japan on December 9. Later Crash titles changed publishers and developers, including Universal Interactive, Vivendi Games, and Activision, but those later arrangements do not alter the publisher of the 1996 original.
