In the original Crash Bandicoot, collecting 100 Wumpa Fruit grants Crash an extra life.
Wumpa Fruit is the game’s main recurring collectible. Players find it in ordinary crates, along routes, and in other level objects, and the total is tracked as Crash moves through each stage. Reaching 100 fruit awards an additional life.
The original Crash Bandicoot also uses lives as a central risk-and-reward system. Crash can lose a life by falling into pits, touching hazards, or being defeated by enemies, while Aku Aku masks provide protection rather than extra lives. Crates marked with Crash’s face can award a life directly, which is a separate mechanic.
The 100-fruit rule is widely associated with classic Crash games, though later entries sometimes adjust how collectibles work. In Crash of the Titans and Crash: Mind over Mutant, for example, Wumpa Fruit primarily restores health, so the original rule should not be applied automatically to every sequel.
