What was the first Crash game not released solely for a PlayStation console?
Answer
The Wrath of Cortex
Answer
The Wrath of Cortex
The Wrath of Cortex was the first Crash game not released solely for a PlayStation console. The 2001 platformer launched on PlayStation 2 and was later released for Xbox and Nintendo’s GameCube.
It was the fourth main Crash platformer and the sixth Crash game overall. Traveller’s Tales developed it after Naughty Dog’s original trilogy and Crash Team Racing, while Universal Interactive published it. Its development marked the franchise’s break from Sony-console exclusivity.
The change followed an agreement involving Universal Interactive and Konami that opened the series to next-generation systems. The game retained familiar platforming conventions while introducing Crunch Bandicoot, a genetically engineered rival created by Doctor Neo Cortex.
Crash Bash, released in 2000, was still exclusive to the original PlayStation, so it does not qualify. Crash Twinsanity came later, in 2004, making The Wrath of Cortex the correct first multiplatform entry under this wording.
