Which company published the original 1995 Rayman game?
Answer
Ubi Soft
Answer
Ubi Soft
Ubi Soft published the original 1995 Rayman game. The French company, now known as Ubisoft, released the platformer as one of its major early international titles.
Rayman was developed by Ubi Pictures, with Michel Ancel serving as its creator and designer. Development began with earlier plans for the Atari ST and Super NES CD-ROM before moving to the Atari Jaguar after Nintendo cancelled its CD-ROM add-on. The game later appeared on PlayStation, Sega Saturn and MS-DOS.
A common mix-up is confusing the publisher with the platforms on which Rayman appeared. Atari, Sega and Nintendo were associated with hardware or distribution platforms, but they did not publish the original game. The company’s name was styled “Ubi Soft” in 1995; it was later standardized as Ubisoft. Rayman helped establish the publisher’s reputation internationally and became a successful PlayStation-era franchise.
