Hasbro produced the Star Wars: The Black Series 40th Anniversary figures in 2017.
The 2017 collection commemorated the 40th anniversary of the original Star Wars film, released in 1977. Hasbro presented selected six-inch Black Series figures on cardbacks styled after the classic Kenner packaging, connecting a modern collector line with the visual identity of the earliest Star Wars toys.
The Black Series itself had already become Hasbro’s premium articulated Star Wars figure range. The anniversary presentation was therefore a packaging and collecting tribute as well as a celebration of the film’s milestone. It should not be confused with Kenner’s original production, even though the card design deliberately references Kenner.
Collectors may also encounter 40th Anniversary figures tied to The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Those later anniversary releases commemorate different films and do not change the company responsible for the 2017 collection.
