Fantasy Flight Games released Star Wars: X-Wing Miniatures Game in 2012.
The game brought Star Wars starfighters to the tabletop through pre-painted miniatures, maneuver templates, pilot cards, and dice-based combat. Its core battles usually involve small groups of ships, making individual pilots and spacecraft important tactical choices. The original product focused on the Galactic Civil War, with Rebel, Imperial, and later Scum and Villainy forces expanded through additional releases.
Players sometimes confuse X-Wing with Star Wars: Armada, which Fantasy Flight Games released in 2015. X-Wing is the earlier game and concentrates on starfighters; Armada is designed around larger fleet actions and capital ships.
The 2012 launch helped establish a substantial Star Wars miniatures ecosystem. Later editions changed the rules and product structure, but the original game remains associated with Fantasy Flight Games’ early-2010s Star Wars tabletop range.
