Epic Games is the company cited as providing Halo Studios with technical support for Unreal Engine.
Halo: Campaign Evolved is being developed with Unreal Engine 5 for its graphics and much of its modern presentation. Game director Greg Hermann said the shift allowed Halo Studios to concentrate more on gameplay and content while relying on Epic Games for technical engine support.
That partnership is distinct from development ownership. Epic created and maintains Unreal Engine, but Halo Studios remains the developer of Campaign Evolved and determines how the technology is used to recreate Halo’s combat, world, characters, and missions.
The move also represents a break from Halo’s recent technology history. Earlier games were built with proprietary technology that evolved through the Blam lineage and later became associated with Slipstream. Campaign Evolved instead combines Unreal’s rendering technology with preserved Halo code and systems, helping the remake retain familiar physics and enemy behavior.
