Which company did Facebook rename as Meta in its 2021 corporate rebrand?
Answer
Facebook, Inc.
Answer
Facebook, Inc.
Facebook, Inc. was the company renamed Meta Platforms in the 2021 corporate rebrand.
The company announced the new corporate name at its Connect conference on October 28, 2021. Facebook, Inc. had become the parent organization for several major products, including Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp. Renaming the parent company allowed the Facebook service to retain its established product name while the corporation adopted a broader identity.
The legal change did not mean that Facebook disappeared. Facebook remained a social-networking platform within the company’s product family. Meta also retained ownership of Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger, while expanding its Reality Labs division for virtual and augmented reality products.
The rebrand is sometimes described imprecisely as Facebook changing its app name. That is incorrect: the app continued to be called Facebook. The corporate entity changed from Facebook, Inc. to Meta Platforms, Inc., and the company later changed its stock ticker from FB to META.
