Which company did Facebook acquire in 2019 to obtain the virtual-reality game Beat Saber’s developer?

The story behind the answer

Facebook acquired Beat Games in 2019, bringing the developer of Beat Saber into its virtual-reality business.

Beat Games was founded in Prague and became famous for Beat Saber, a rhythm game in which players slash blocks to the beat of music using motion controllers. Facebook announced the acquisition in November 2019, and Beat Games joined Facebook’s Oculus Studios group.

The studio continued operating under its own name and remained focused on supporting Beat Saber after the acquisition. The game had already become one of the best-known titles available for Oculus and other VR platforms.

Beat Games was a studio acquisition, not an acquisition of the Beat Saber game’s name alone. Facebook had earlier acquired Oculus VR in 2014, but Beat Games was a separate purchase made to strengthen its software ecosystem.
