Which company developed the Burj Khalifa?

The story behind the answer

Emaar Properties developed the Burj Khalifa.

The Dubai-based property company conceived the tower as the centerpiece of Downtown Dubai, a huge mixed-use development that also includes the Dubai Mall, hotels, homes, parks and an artificial lake. Construction began in 2004, and the building officially opened on January 4, 2010. It was known as Burj Dubai during much of construction before being renamed in honor of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Emaar was the developer and owner, but it was not the only company involved. Skidmore, Owings & Merrill designed the tower, with Adrian Smith as chief architect and Bill Baker as structural engineer. Samsung C&T, BESIX and Arabtec formed the main construction team, while Hyder Consulting supervised engineering work.

The tower reaches 828 metres to its architectural height and has remained the world's tallest building since its completion. During the global financial crisis, the UAE government provided Dubai financial support as Emaar faced funding difficulties, helping the landmark project reach its opening.
