Which building in Jakarta is the tallest in the Southern Hemisphere?
Answer
Autograph Tower
Answer
Autograph Tower
Autograph Tower is the tallest building in Jakarta and the tallest building in the Southern Hemisphere.
The skyscraper stands in Jakarta’s central Sudirman district as part of the mixed-use Thamrin Nine development. It reaches about 382.9 metres and was completed in 2022, taking the Southern Hemisphere height record from Australia’s Q1 Tower on the Gold Coast, which measures about 322.5 metres to its architectural top.
Autograph Tower is primarily an office skyscraper, with observation and hospitality uses incorporated into the wider development. Its height also makes it Indonesia’s tallest building. Jakarta’s position just south of the Equator is important: the city is in the Southern Hemisphere, so a Jakarta tower can hold a hemispheric record even though it is not among the world’s tallest buildings overall.
A frequent mix-up is Q1 Tower, which held the record from 2005 until 2022. Tokyo Skytree is much taller as a structure but is in Japan, north of the Equator, while Gran Torre Santiago is in Chile and is shorter.
