The world’s largest office building is located in Surat, India.
The Surat Diamond Bourse is a massive diamond-trading center in DREAM City, Khajod, on the outskirts of Surat in Gujarat. Completed in 2023 and inaugurated on December 17 that year, the complex contains about 7.1 million square feet of floor space, making it larger by floor area than the Pentagon. It was designed by the Indian architecture firm Morphogenesis as a purpose-built hub for the diamond industry.
The bourse is organized as nine interconnected towers, each 15 floors high, linked by a central corridor. It was planned to accommodate thousands of diamond-trading offices, along with conference facilities, restaurants, banks, security infrastructure and customs services. The building’s scale can cause confusion because “largest office building” is measured by usable floor area, not height. Surat itself is a major global diamond-processing center, while Mumbai remains another important hub for India’s diamond trade.
